I have restored these old photos for Lorraine from the contact sheet proofs. Back in the day, photographers had to print small proofs for customers to choose from. These were then enlarged to be placed in a photo album. These contact proofs were from a medium format camera and still have a quite bit of detail. They were badly creased and cracked. I was approached last year by the Queen Nanasipauu of Tonga to restore some photos for the Department of Tongan  Culture. Saturday and still got my head down working through a pile of photo restoration work. Repairing damaged wedding photos for a customer who has rescued a pile of prescious family photos from certain death.

This photo sent to me by Suaree was to be used for a headstone, but the resolution was too low and there was too many blemishes for it to look nice when enlarged. So using Photoshop I removed the blemishes and corrected the colour. I also interpolation the image to increase the resolution and give the headstone people more pixels to work with Suaree was very pleased with the results and I was happy to be able to assist. Here is some close up screen shots of detail from a recent restoration. Just showing just how much repair work is required when you zoom into the fine detail. The final image is actual very small in size and as such make working with fine detail so much harder. There are lots of old photos like these hidden away. They do represent a slice of history and as such are very important. Not just as a family heirloom but as a documentation of the war and those that fought. Restoring these images and retaining as much from the original image as possible is very important. This is a favourite image of Michelle's. This photo was taken on an APS camera and has suffered from light damage. APS stands for Advanced Photo System. This image didn't look all that advanced. There is a mysterious shadowing and a red discolouration on the left hand side.  All of the damage has now been removed and the image can now be printed an enjoyed. This is a great photo spoilt because of light damage to the film. Light entering the camera has fogged the film and created this red discolouration when printed.
